Founded in 1878, Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association of Beirut is a humanitarian and not-for-profit association that offers academic excellence, secures preventive and curative healthcare services and addresses the community’s social and cultural needs without any discrimination based on gender, religion or national origin.
Al Makassed was established on a culture of tolerance, justice, humility and patriotism, so that citizens take pride in their values and identity while remaining open to the world and its cultural diversity. Makassed was founded to empower society through education. Today, its values remain in line with its initial ethos: education is essential for economic and social progress; women are vital contributors to such progress.
